So you and the misses have decided to rent a movie tonight instead of going to a new one since it’s much cheaper and the fact no one calls the cops on you if your heavy petting gets heavier. After a quick look at your local Blockbuster you find that the movies that came out this week are all gone. Your wife/girlfriend/soon to be ex-girlfriend is hitting you saying, “This is why we should have come here first instead of dinner!” What do you do?
Follow this guide of course.
This week’s movies most likely checked out:
Factory Girl
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Premonition
Comic courtesy of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cartoons.
Reviews after the jump.
Factory Girl
Starring:
Sienna Miller (The girl who was in that scandal with Jude Law)
Hayden Christensen (The winy Anakin Skywalker)
Guy Pearce (The nerdy guy in L.A. Confidential)
Rated:
Unrated for nudity, language and drug use
Plot:
Andy Warhol (Pierce) “discovers” socialite Edie Sedgwick (Miller) and puts her in some of his work.
Thoughts:
It’s basically Paris Hilton in the 60’s. So, in 40 years, we’ll get a movie about Paris Hilton. Great. Not a bad movie, lost interest when she was being told by her banker that she’s almost out of money from her trust fund she says “So?” I don’t like movies where I don’t emotionally connect with the main character. I don’t emotionally connect with Paris Hilton.
The “Yes, that’s him” cast:
Jimmy Fallon (what, he’s not looking at the camera and laughing?)
Cary Elwes (The guy from Robin Hood: Men in Tights/The Princess Bride) as the guy with the beard.
It’s Out! What Other Movies Do You Rent?:
Walk the Line - Also a biography in that decade, but it’s better and doesn’t seem like a Warhol movie.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights - Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent (and once I told you he was in the film, you wanted to see it again).
The Hills Have Eyes 2
It’s Out! What Other Movies Do You Rent?:
It’s a slasher film. No one cares. Rent another slasher.
Premonition
Starring:
Sandra Bullock (She was Miss Congeniality even though she was a cop)
Julian McMahon (Dr. Doom and the evil guy in Charmed and Nip/Tuck)
Peter Stormare (Number 7 on Cracked.com’s list of “That Guy” but not evil here, or is he?)
Rated:
PG-13 for a car accident and situations kids might not understand (Death, mental hospitals, etc.)
Plot:
Linda (Bullock) wakes up and learns her husband (McMahon) died. Then she wakes up the next morning and he’s alive and nothing’s happened. What’s going on?
Thoughts:
Some plot holes (All I’m saying is scars and cell phones) and they tried to hit on alot of topics, but didn’t follow through with them. Looks very Hitchcockian in style and is entertaining, but I felt cheated when it was over (though I like the ending better than Deja Vu). It’s not bad, but I’m not buying the DVD. And I would have hunted down the director if he used the “Alternate” ending. Glad he didn’t go with it.
No it’s not Her:
Amber Valletta (she’s not Naomi Watts)
And No it’s Not:
A remake of the Japanese Movie Premonition. They are unrelated.
It’s Out! What Other Movies Do You Rent?:
Memento - Want a movie that really messes with your mind? This one (with Guy Pierce) will rock your world.
Deja Vu - The movie itself isn’t bad (Denzel Washington and Val Kimer are studs), I just don’t like the ending, though I understand it.
Hope you get your movie this weekend. You guys have suggestions of what other movies to rent instead of these?
