I admit it, I was caught up on the media hype for this movie: funniest movie this generation, quotable to no end, you’d be an idiot not to see this movie. So I dragged my girlfriend to see this movie. She said all the funniest parts were in the trailer. I looked at her funny. This was Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill and Micheal Cera; I love their work.
But she was right. Damn her! Now I owe her a chick flick. Sigh.
Was the movie not funny (ala Napoleon Dynamite), or were there no jokes? I’m siding with the there weren’t enough jokes in there. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad by any means; it was quite touching about growing up, friendship and trying to impress a girl to get some action. Maybe, that was a problem, it didn’t seem original enough for me. It seemed like the typical teen sex/comedy. Anyone could have made this movie, but truthfully I was expecting more from this group.
While this is not a movie to be avoided like Britney Spears, don’t expect amazing things from it. There were great bits (The penis drawing, the “Chardonnay” spot), but the second half was more of a drama then an amazing comedy. The theater laughed, but there were other times where it went flat. I will be renting the movie when it comes out because I know there will be an unrated cut, which should have more jokes.
Knocked up was the better comedy that had Seth Rogen in it this summer. Slow down the comedies, and you’ll be just fine. I still love you Seth. Now why can’t I yell that from the top of my rooftops and not seem weird?
Trailers: The Dark Knight Teaser (Awesome), National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (Looks more “Um, ok, that can happen” then the first one), The Comebacks (A Sports “Date Movie” that got no laughs), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (A “walk the line” parody that also got no laughs), and American Gangster (Looks amazing)
I’ve got to disagree with you on Superbad, it is super funny. I laughed from the beginning to the end.
