Don’t get me wrong, I love free speech. I think that as an American, having free speech allows us to share our thoughts and feelings without get censored. Of course, this being the internet, not even WordPress.com (my wonderful blog provider) can help from being censored. Even Livejournals accounts were being deleted, another form of censorship.

Everyone on the internet has an opinion (hint, that’s why there’s a ton of blogs). And when people are given an outlet on the internet to voice their opinions like comments or fourms, you hope that they tend to write well thought out ideas. But most of this time, it comes out like this collegehumor.com clip (NSFW):

Now, its this trend that disturbs me. Sure, I get some negative comments on my site trying to prove me wrong. But, if they are thought out, and use evidence, I’ll let them stay up because it’s a discussion. The two most popular posts I’ve written that have gotten the most negative feedback are the Napoleon Dynamite review and the Family Guy vs. The Simpsons fake fight.

Now, films and tv show reviews are opinions, not fact. In my opinion, Napoleon Dynamite is a horrible movie. Not everyone agrees with me, which is fine, I understand that. If you want to tell me that I’m wrong, you’re free to do so, without being an ass about it. Examples:

I think it’s cultural. You can think it’s funny if it has reference to your own life. It does for me. The first time I saw it, I was dumbstruck, bewildered, etc, but it got funnier in my mind. It only works if it makes sense. Or if you understand why it doesn’t make sense.

I can see their point about the film. Sure, it can be cultural. Here’s a comment that recently I deleted: (Name withheld)

 

omg. you snobby film critic. Napoleon Dynamite is the greatest film ever made, it doesn’t need to have ‘ character development ‘ to be funny. I can watch it over and over again and crack up at everything. It may seem boring to you but it’s the pointless vibe that makes it so funny.

Saying, “up yours cuz you just got ownned,” because your reason is that, “it doesn’t need to have ‘character development’ to be funny,” looks like you are in third grade (and judging my your e-mail address, it wouldn’t surprise me).

I know that I may be wrong from time to time, and you’re free to disagree with me. I would love to hear what you guys/girls think of my site if more of you took the time to write. But I would like that my audience is smarter then having to post “suck my white ass,” and “you cant stop me now asshole im gunna fuck your site up.” Luckily(?) that and two more comments I won’t share were all from the same person, so it’s not like a widespread problem (which I don’t understand why they were all on the same post or even on that particular post).

I’m not kicking and screaming to stop calling me names, or don’t bad mouth anything, just don’t be 10 years old. Now, I added that poster who said “suck my white ass” to my spam comments, so I’m not too worried about him screwing up this site. Since yesterday, I’ve gotten 45 spam comments on here and almost 2,000 since the beginning of the year. WordPress does an amazing job of blocking those on here, because I’m sure that none of you want to read “ninja turtles adult nc-17 erotic fanfiction.” I didn’t realize that my audience was even into that; if you are google it (which will now be awkard when people do google it and it comes up here).

Thanks or taking the time to read this. I know that this is the internet, and I shouldn’t be so anal, but come on (wow, I’ll sure get some google hits for that).
