What the hell just happened? Eastern Promises just happened.

Here’s a post from Matt.  Since Matt is writing again, like me, I’m throwing this over to the new site.  Which new site?  Well, look at the banner.  If you want the direct link, click here

So, I finally sat down and watched Eastern Promises, (For those who want to know who is in it - Viggo Mortenson and Niaomi Watts) for the entire movie, I was really into the film. It had good action, a naked fight scene and Niaomi Watts isnt bad to look at. But once the movie ended, I had no idea what just took place. This movie made me completely space out, I had no idea what the hell I just watched or what just happened. I liked the movie, erm, I believe I liked the movie. My girlfriend said she liked the movie, but like me, had no idea what just went on.

This movie had a great story, but it is one of those films that kind of made me…uhh..I dont believe there is a word in the english dictionary that can describe it. And because of it, you can give this movie the Mace Windu stamp of approval!!!

Oh yeah, and for all those LOTR fans out there (And if you know what LOTR is, you are a nerd also) you get to see Aragorn fight naked. I always wondered what Middle Earth looked like on him.

Movies that I also recently watched and thought were good.

Tron - Dont you think they need a Tron 2: Tron Harder….

I know pronouce you chuck and larry. It had some great laughs. Not the same time of laughs I got during the fight scene during Borat. But it had some great moments. Also, Jessica Biel is really hot.

Transformers. I apologize for taking so long to watch it. I wasnt a Transformers kid. I watched DinoRiders and TNMT. But it was a damn good movie. That chick is hot. You know, she was in one episode of Two and a Half Men? Also, a great show. Not as good as DinoRiders though.

Hollywood at its finest - Best movie star mug shots

Hollywood always claims that they are just like us.  They buy gas, they walk their dogs, and most importantly they break the law just like us.

Today - I would like to bring light the best mug shot pictures and point out - “Hey, maybe they are white trash like us too!”.

 Number 5 - Rip Torn.

Rip Torn

Dodge, Duck, Dip, Drink and maybe Drink a little bit more.  Anyone else thinks that he may live in Spokane, Washington?  The Men in Black refused to take a breathelizer after he crashed his car into a tractor-trailer.

 Number 4 - Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn

Being a multi-millionare, famous, and some girls may think good looking.  Couldnt you stop your dumbass getting in fight in bars.  I bet you hit like a girl.

Number 3 - Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson

He all know his anti-semitic rants when he got arressted.  Lord knows - when I drink to much its all those damn jews fault.  Regardless he looks like a freakin rapest in this picture.

 Number 2 - Steve-O

Steve-O

He belongs on this list not because it looks like a year book photo.  But for the pure awesomess for being arressted.  He was arrested for stapling his balls to his thigh.  Isnt it just enough having to go through the pain of having your balls stapled, let alone being arressted indecent exposure.  F the Police I tell you!

Number 1 - The best Mug shot of all time.  It needs no words just look in awe.

Nick Nolte.

First Impressions of 300

Last night at 12:01 I went and saw the first showing of 300 in Seattle. If you had read my prior postings - especially about Troy - I am very fickle about movies that retell historical events. For those who don’t know - 300 is about a battle between the Spartan Army and Persians in the Persian War. This battle is known to be the battle of Thermopylae.

Without going into very many details - so I don’t spoil the movie for those who either have not seen it - or doesn’t know the outcome of the historical battle - this movie does a “decent” job of retelling the story. The general ideas, quotes and tactics are correct. The story is elaborated - alot. It consists of a little love story, heroics no earthly man could achieve. But that’s Hollywood - very rarely are historical battles - especially ancient battles all that interesting.

I would consider this movie a must see - just take a lot of the events with a grain of salt.

Those who would like to learn more about the battle of Thermopylae and the Persian wars, please read the ancient historian Herodutus.

Added - here is an article by the USA Today. Its a QnA with a scholar of the Battle of Thermopylae. I have the exact same feelings as he does.

- Note from Robby: Yes, this war is based off a true war, but the idea from this movie came from the comic book 300, written by Frank Miller. Yes, the same Rank Miller who made Sin City, so he took a little creative license with the war. Seeing some of the behind the scenes, they knew that the soldiers didn’t fight with some of that style, but it looked way cooler.

Now, I’m going to go over to Matt’s house and beat him for seeing the midnight showing, considering I forgot I could do that, and waiting until tomorrow. ‘Course, it might take an army of 300 to stop me.

Oh yeah, boo on IMAX for not playing 300 in Seattle. What’s the deal? Oklahoma gets 300 but not Seattle? I think there’s more people stuck in traffic here then there are people in Oklahoma.

Movies vs. the Book - Round 1

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and children of all ages. This is the battle of the century. The rumble in the library? (That doesnt rhyme - but technically I am a historian, not a writer or poet.) The battle for peoples minds - and most importantly - TIME!

In the Left corner, wearing the blue trunks. From modern day society, the digital distructor, the modern day miricle, the big screen bomber - MOVIES.

While in the right corner, wearing the gray shorts that look dusty and never worn. The ancient anvil, the bound bomber (I can use bomber twice - bite me) coming to from a local library near you - BOOKS!

So - I dont know if I made it interesting, but it poses a good question. Whats better, the book or the movie that is based after the book. The easy answer would be - the book. It usually goes more indepth and you can get a better feel for the storyline. But, most Americans can either A) Not read. B) Dont want to read C) Dont want to spend time reading. While the book can take weeks to finish, the movie on the other hand takes 2 hours (Unless you are watching Lord of the Rings, then both take months).

First and foremost - you are here, because you know how to read. Maybe not well - but at least at a level to understand mostly what I am talking about. And I know most of you have read a book before - maybe a short one, but at least thats a book. Unless your my friend Andy - who hasnt read a book since he graduated from High School - over 5 years ago. Jesus, its not hard - pick up a book and try! I digress - actually what the hell was I talking about.

Ok - moving on. We can read. We can see (I hope, I am not writing this article in braille, unless you want me too.) Bump, Bump, Big Bump, Big Bump, Little Bump, Line, Space, Bump. Get it? Me neither.

Jesus - I need to get one with the topic. Books are great. They really are, reading a fantastic book that grabs your attention - will leave you turning pages, never putting in down and actually learning. While watching a great movie - will take less time, even if you watch it over and over again. When you watch a movie - that you absolutly love, you can talk about it with almost anyone. You can talk about the special effects, the actors, etc. When you read a great book - thats fantastic, no one else read it.

When it comes to movie that is based after a book. You always get those assholess like me who say “Oh the book is so much better”. While you respond, “I dont give a shit,” or “You know what was the best part about the movie? 2 hours.”

DING DING DING!!! Round 1 is over (for those who dont know, it was more an introduction. Round 2 will be pro’s and cons’…please stay tuned.)

HD DVD vs Blu Ray

Robby’s Note: This is my friend Matt. Matt works for Microsoft; or so that what he says. He is sarcastic, very sarcastic. You might have read his last blog post, about Troy. If you haven’t, do so. And if you have, read on (also, if you haven’t, you can read on as well, I can’t stop you).

For those who may possibly know me, you know that I have to have the latest, greatest, bestest and SARS free technology on the block. So when poised the question: “Am I going to get HD-DVD and Blu ray,” I sat down and thought about it. And about 5 minutes later I bought an HD-DVD player. My reasons initially were very simple – I have a Xbox 360 and the HD-DVD attachment is $200, which is by far cheaper than any other HD-DVD or Blu ray player.

Troy Ruined My Life

Troy sucked.

Honestly it did – it sucked. I know a lot of you, I mean A LOT of you, loved that movie. How could you not; it has Brad Pitt right? And a lot of action, killing, gore and some hot females (well, maybe just one. Unless you’re gay, then you went nuts for Brad Pitt’s ass).
